Process to Outcomes
Stop worshipping effort. Measure outcomes, not hours. A process that feels productive but doesn't move metrics is just expensive theater.
The Activity Trap
Busyness feels like progress. Meetings feel like alignment. Reports feel like accountability.
But none of these are outcomes. They're process.
The Outcome Test
For any activity, ask: "What measurable outcome does this produce?"
If you can't answer clearly, you're doing activity theater.
Metrics That Matter
Not all metrics are outcomes:
- **Vanity metrics**: Feel good, mean nothing (page views, followers)
- **Activity metrics**: Measure effort, not results (hours worked, tickets closed)
- **Outcome metrics**: Measure what actually matters (revenue, retention, satisfaction)
The Shift
Stop measuring:
- Hours worked → Ship dates hit
- Meetings attended → Decisions made
- Reports written → Problems solved
- Tasks completed → Goals achieved
The question isn't "What did you do?" It's "What changed because of what you did?"
